Jonathan Kim has a simple goal for Cal-Oaks Pharmacy, which he owns.
“I want it to be like “Cheers,” where everyone yells ‘Norm’ whenever he walks on set,” said Kim, reminding customers of the iconic television show.
Many would say that Kim is well on his way.
“A lot of the kids just say “I am going to the Pharmacy” or “pick me up at the pharmacy,” said Kim. And why not. It’s a great place for a kid to spend a little after-school time with its large supply of cold drinks and ice cream.
“My main goal is to become the pharmacy of the town,” he added.
Kim has five children of his own so providing a hang-out for young people is a noble goal that he can almost reach on his own..
Kim had a well-stocked pharmacy during COVID, which allowed him to provide vaccinations when other pharmacies when others lacked a sufficient supply.
Kim is also a licensed chiropractor, which allows him to provide additional services.
“It allows me to talk to customers when they are buying something like shoe inserts,” Kim said. “I want to give them honest advice instead of making a quick buck. It gives me another opportunity to meet my customers.”
One day, Kim hopes that he hears a steady chorus of “Jonathan” when he is on the floor with his customers.
