On a pleasantly overcast day on Saturday, June 8 , hikers from the East Meets West Parent Education Club gathered at the scenic Gabrielino Trail for a dual-purpose event: hiking and trail clean-up. The cool weather was perfect for this family-friendly activity, which attracted both club members and enthusiastic newcomers. Several new member families participated in the event for the first time. Everyone shared a common goal: to enjoy nature while making a positive impact.
As our group set off on the trail, other hikers noticed our purposeful hike and asked some questions about the club’s mission and activities. Some passerbys expressed gratitude for the club’s efforts for responsible outdoor recreation.
East Meets West Parent Education Club (EMWPEC) members and youth volunteers demonstrated their commitment to preserving the natural beauty of the area by collecting trash along the way. Plastic bottles, aluminum cans, and paper litter were among the many items retrieved from the trail, filling several large trash bags.
After a productive two hour of hiking and cleaning, participants gathered to relax and some enjoyed a well-deserved cup of tea provided by fellow club members.
