Keeping Our Community Safe and Informed – Distracted Driving Awareness Month
Overview of Distracted Driving Awareness Month
Distracted Driving Awareness Month is observed each April to educate the public about the dangers of distracted driving and to promote safer driving behaviors. The campaign emphasizes the risks associated with activities such as texting, using mobile devices, eating, or any behavior that diverts attention from the road. Through public outreach, enforcement efforts, and community engagement, it aims to reduce preventable collisions, injuries, and fatalities caused by driver inattention.
Key Safety Tips:
- Stay focused, keep your eyes on the road, hands on the wheel, and mind on driving.
- Put your phone away or enable “Do Not Disturb While Driving.”
- Never text or use handheld devices while driving.
- Set navigation and music before starting your trip.
- Pull over safely if you need to make a call or send a message.
- Avoid eating, grooming, or reaching for items while driving.
- Secure passengers, children, and pets to minimize distractions.
- Remain alert and always practice defensive driving.
