Overview of National Burn Awareness Week
National Burn Awareness Week is an annual campaign focused on educating the public about burn prevention, safety, and early treatment at home, work, and in the community. It highlights common causes of burns and promotes steps to reduce risk while supporting burn survivors and their families.

Helpful Tips for National Burn Awareness Week

  • Prevent scald burns: Set your water heater to 120°F or lower and always test water temperature before bathing children or older adults.
  • Practice kitchen safety: Keep pot handles turned inward, never leave cooking unattended, and keep flammable items away from the stove.
  • Be fire-safe at home: Install and regularly test smoke alarms, keep a fire extinguisher accessible, and practice a home fire escape plan.
  • Electrical safety matters: Replace damaged cords, avoid overloading outlets, and keep electrical devices away from water.

Traffic Enforcement
Traffic enforcement is guided by three (3) primary categories:

  1. Community-generated traffic complaints
  2. Officer-observed violations
  3. Analysis of traffic collision data

The Department maintains and regularly updates a comprehensive list of locations identified through traffic complaints and collision data to inform and prioritize enforcement efforts. As part of our traffic collision investigations, we also assess contributing factors that may have played a role in the incident.
