About TASF

Created in 2014, TASF (Taiwanese American Scholarship Fund) supports economically challenged students of Taiwanese descent residing in the U.S. in their pursuit of higher education. This year the response was overwhelming, with applicants from 33 states across the nation. Through a competitive application process, the funds are applied toward tuition for selected students in their first or second year of college. This year each student will receive $7,500 and they will be eligible for scholarship renewal for the rest of his/her college years with GPA 3.45.

TASF is made possible through the generosity of a group of Taiwanese American philanthropists spearheaded by Sean Yu, Shawn Chou and Chun-Yen Chen as its co-founders.  It is the hope of these donors that their gifts will provide countless students with the opportunity for a brighter tomorrow and make their dreams of a college education come true. TASF has distributed over $1.26 million to 113 students for their 4-year college tuitions since 2014.

Last weekend the TASF 2023 award ceremony luncheon was held at the Westin Bonaventure. Special thanks to Peter Zen, the owner of Westin Bonaventure, for hosting students’ hotel rooms! We also welcomed our 2020, 2021 and 2022 students to join this year’s award reception since we were unable to host in-person event during the pandemic. Each student also received “Easycard” from the Taipei Economic and Culture Office (TECO) in Los Angeles and Overseas Community Affair Council (OCAC) and hope they soon will have an opportunity to visit Taiwan!
