San Marino High School’s girls’ varsity tennis team used excellent singles play to overpower La Cañada last Thursday afternoon, winning the Rio Hondo League match by a final score of 14-4 to improve its record to 9 wins against just a singe loss.
Sophomore Katie Hoang and junior Carina Yang swept through their opponents, recording three 6-0 sets apiece. Sophomore Kate Chung was just a step behind, defeating her three singles opponents by scores of 6-0, 6-1 and 6-1.
Junior Mia Ln and senior Sarah Tran paced the Titans’ doubles with a pair of 6-1 wins. They were defeated in their third set by a final score of 2-6.
Last year, San Marino and La Canada met in the CIF Open Division championship, which saw the Lady Titans prevail.
