Overview of Holiday Travel/Traffic
As the holiday season approaches, travelers are reminded to ensure their vehicles are well-maintained, get adequate rest, and prepare for potential emergencies before hitting the road. Holiday driving poses increased risks, with alcohol impairment contributing to about one-third of the hundreds of fatal crashes that occur annually on New Year’s Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.

Tips to Stay Safe on the Road Over the Holidays and Everyday
Stay safe on the roads over the holidays  and every day:

  • Prepare your car for winter and keep an emergency kit with you.
  • Get a good night’s sleep before departing and avoid drowsy driving.
  • Leave early, planning ahead for heavy traffic.
  • Make sure every person in the vehicle is properly buckled up no matter how long or short the distance traveled.
  • Put that cell phone away; many distractions occur while driving.
  • Practice defensive driving.
  • Designate a sober driver to ensure guests make it home safely after a holiday party; alcohol or over-the-counter, prescription and illegal drugs can cause impairment.

Traffic Enforcement

As part of our traffic collision investigations, we also assess contributing factors that may have played a role in the incident.
