Overview of Thanksgiving Week Public Safety
Thanksgiving week is traditionally one of the busiest travel and activity periods of the year, bringing increased traffic, crowded public spaces, and higher risks of accidents and emergencies. The Thanksgiving Week Public Safety initiative focuses on ensuring the safety and well-being of the community during this period.

Public Safety Tips During Thanksgiving Week
Stay safe this Thanksgiving week by following traffic rules, practicing fire and home safety, securing your belongings, and being prepared for emergencies.

  • Traffic Safety: Increased law enforcement presence on major roads, highways, and intersections to prevent accidents, manage congestion, and promote safe driving, particularly during peak travel days.
  • Fire and Home Safety: Reminders about safe cooking practices, proper use of holiday decorations, and fire prevention tips to reduce household accidents.
  • Crime Prevention: Encouraging residents to secure homes, vehicles, and personal belongings, as holidays may see higher rates of theft or opportunistic crime.
  • Emergency Preparedness: Be informed on how to contact emergency services, understand evacuation routes, and remain prepared for medical or weather-related emergencies.
  • Community Awareness: Public messaging through social media, local news, and community bulletins to keep residents informed about safety measures, traffic updates, and emergency contacts.

If you see something, say something. Report suspicious activity to the San Marino Police Department.

  • Emergencies: Dial 9-1-1
  • Non-Emergencies: Call (626) 300-0720
  • Fire Department: Call (626) 300-0735

Traffic Enforcement
Traffic enforcement is guided by three (3) primary categories:

  1. Community-generated traffic complaints
  2. Officer-observed violations
  3. Analysis of traffic collision data

The Department maintains and regularly updates a comprehensive list of locations identified through traffic complaints and collision data to inform and prioritize enforcement efforts. As part of our traffic collision investigations, we also assess contributing factors that may have played a role in the incident. These factors may include distracted driving, roadway engineering, and environmental conditions.
