Overview of Security Awareness Month
Security Awareness Month and the National See Something, Say Something Awareness Day encourages the public to stay vigilant and report suspicious, terrorism-related, or criminal activity. By trusting their instincts and promptly notifying authorities, individuals help prevent potential threats and protect their communities.

Helpful Tips for Security Awareness Month

  • What to Report: Unusual behavior, unauthorized access, surveillance of security systems, attempts to gather information on infrastructure, unattended bags, or bulky clothing in warm weather.
  • Where to Report: Contact local law enforcement or dial 9-1-1 in emergencies.
  • Purpose: Prevent crimes and terrorism by encouraging community members to report uncomfortable or potentially dangerous situations.
  • Definition of Suspicious: Based on behavior, not race, ethnicity, religion, or gender.
  • Slogan: Report. Prevent.

Traffic Enforcement
Traffic enforcement is guided by three (3) primary categories:

  1. Community-generated traffic complaints
  2. Officer-observed violations
  3. Analysis of traffic collision data

The Department maintains and regularly updates a comprehensive list of locations identified through traffic complaints and collision data to inform and prioritize enforcement efforts. As part of our traffic collision investigations, we also assess contributing factors that may have played a role in the incident. These factors may include distracted driving, roadway engineering, and environmental conditions.
