Keeping Our Community Safe and Informed – Driving Under the Influence (DUI)
Overview of DUI
Driving Under the Influence continues to be a serious public safety issue, placing drivers, passengers, and pedestrians at risk every day. Through education, enforcement, and community involvement, law enforcement agencies and traffic safety partners are working together to reduce alcohol-involved crashes and save lives.
Public Safety Reminders
- If you suspect a drunk or dangerous driver, call 911 immediately.
- Always designate a sober driver or use a rideshare or alternative transportation.
- Driving with a BAC of .08 or higher is illegal in all states and can result in severe legal consequences.
- Drunk driving is especially common at night (6:00 p.m. – 5:59 a.m.), when half of traffic fatalities involve impaired drivers.
- Motorcyclists and young adults (ages 18–34) face a higher risk of alcohol-related fatal crashes.
- Buckle up every time, many child fatalities in DUI crashes involved unrestrained passengers.
- Support and participate in programs like DDVIP, which encourage and reward designated sober drivers.
- Zero Tolerance, One Goal—No Fatalities. Choosing to drive sober protects lives, including your own.
