Fire Safety Tips

  • Choose Safe Decorations: Use flame-resistant or flame-retardant decorations; opt for flameless LED candles instead of real candles.
  • Inspect Lights: Check holiday lights for frayed wires, cracked sockets, or broken bulbs. Use indoor-rated lights inside and outdoor-rate cords outside.
  • Tree Safety: For real trees, keep them fresh, watered daily, and maintain a three-foot distance from heat sources. For artificial trees, ensure they are labeled fire-resistant.
  • Turn Off Lights: Always turn off trees and decoration lights before leaving home and going to bed.

Home Security Tips

  • Secure Your Home: Lock all doors and windows; consider a security system and use timers for lights to simulate occupancy.
  • Secure Packages: Arrange for someone to receive online deliveries, or have a trusted neighbor collect them.
  • Avoid Sharing Plans: Refrain from posting travel plans or expensive gifts on social media.

General Safety Precautions

  • Keep Exits Clear: Ensure trees and large decorations do not block exits/hallways.
  • Fire Extinguisher: Keep one accessible near the tree and ensure everyone knows how to use it.
  • Emergency Plan: Create and practice a fire escape plan with your family.
