Residents are advised to take basic precautions: drink plenty of water, avoid outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day, and never leave children or pets in parked cars. Those without air conditioning are encouraged to visit public cooling centers, libraries, or shopping centers to stay safe.

Cooling sites in the area include the South Pasadena Library Community RoomCrowell Public Library in San Marino, and Pasadena’s designated library cooling locations. Residents can call 2-1-1 or visit ready.lacounty.gov/heat for the latest updates and locations.

While the heat is not unusual for late summer in the San Gabriel Valley, officials remind residents to look out for neighbors and family members who may be more vulnerable, including older adults, young children, and those with chronic health conditions.

The extended advisory is expected to expire Wednesday night as temperatures begin to gradually ease.
