Overview of National Child Passenger Safety Week
National Child Passenger Safety Week, observed September 21 – 27, 2025, is a nationwide campaign that promotes the importance of properly securing children in car seats, booster seats, and seat belts to prevent injuries and save lives. The initiative educates parents and caregivers on correct installation and use, offers free car seat inspection events with certified safety technicians, and emphasizes four (4) key messages.

- Installing seats correctly.
- Making sure children are restrained on every trip, every time.
Why It Matters
- Motor vehicle crashes remain a leading cause of death for children in the U.S.

- Research finds that nearly half of all car seats are installed incorrectly.

The Department maintains and regularly updates a comprehensive list of locations identified through traffic complaints and collision data to inform and prioritize enforcement efforts. As part of our traffic collision investigations, we also assess contributing factors that may have played a role in the incident. These factors may include distracted driving, roadway engineering, and environmental conditions.

1:52 AM / Hit and Run / San Gabriel Boulevard / Sheffield Road
Party #1 was traveling North on San Gabriel Boulevard while Party #2 was traveling South on San Gabriel Boulevard. Party #1 executed a U-turn and collided with Party #2. Following the initial collision, Party #2’s vehicle continued forward and struck a parked vehicle. Party #1 did not stop and continued to drive away from the scene. The primary collision factor was CVC §20002(a) – Hit & Run.
7:22 PM / Incident Report / 1500 Block of Circle Drive
Victim reported meeting with a suspect, with whom they had established contact through a social media platform, at a city park. During the meeting, the suspect requested assistance in exchanging a large amount of Chinese currency for U.S. currency. After the encounter, the victim discovered that their bank account had been frozen and that approximately $50,000.00 had been unlawfully withdrawn by the suspect. The suspect is described as an Asian male. This investigation remains ongoing.

Victim reported that unknown suspect(s) gained entry to the location by creating a hole in the drywall. At the time of the incident, the location was unsecured. Once inside, the suspects ransacked the premises and fled the area. Officers conducted a canvass of the surrounding area to identify potential witnesses and recover any available security camera footage. This investigation remains ongoing.

SMPD received a report of possible financial abuse involving the victim. Unknown suspect(s) unlawfully withdrew approximately $42,000.00 from the victim’s bank account. This investigation remains ongoing.
8:04 AM / Incident Report / Monterey Road / Virginia Road
Officers conducted a traffic stop for violation of CVC §5204 – Expired Registration Tabs. A records check revealed the driver had five (5) outstanding warrants from Baldwin Park Police Department, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, West Covina Police Department, and San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department. Christa Elena Perez (D.O.B. 10/31/1995, Temple City) was issued an Own Recognizance citation and released in the field without incident.

Victim reported that unknown suspect(s) removed approximately $10,000.00 in U.S. currency and personal belongings from the victim’s safety deposit box at their bank. This investigation remains ongoing.
6:40 PM / Theft / 1100 Block of St. Albans Road
Victim reported a vehicle burglary. Unknown suspect(s) shattered the passenger’s side window, removed personal property from the vehicle, and fled the location in an unknown direction. Officers conducted a canvass of the surrounding area to locate potential witnesses and obtain additional security camera footage. The investigation remains ongoing.
