Keeping Our Community Safe and Informed – National Preparedness Month
Overview of National Preparedness Month
National Preparedness Month, observed each September, highlights the importance of being ready for disasters and emergencies. It encourages individuals, families, and communities to plan, build supply kits, and stay informed to strengthen resilience and safety.
Highlights for National Preparedness Month
- Know Your Risk – learn what disasters may affect your area and how to stay safe.
- Make a Family Emergency Plan – create a plan early to reduce stress, save time and money; use free tools like Ready.gov’s fillable Family Emergency Plan form.
- Build an Emergency Supply Kit – stock food, water, medicine, and essentials; prepare a go-bag for quick evacuation.
- Get Involved in Your Community – take classes (first aid, CPR), join CERT programs, or complete FEMA online courses to strengthen local resilience.
